This month Vivatel handled its 250,000th phone call, an inbound video call to a premium-rate 1900 number. The call lasted 33 .7 seconds.

Vivatel's call volumes continue to rise, with multi-party video conferencing proving popular. Vivatel has also seen growing demand for its record-and-playback capability, where callers can leave a recorded video message for others to view.

13/07/2008 :: Vivatel platform now supports conferencing

This week Melbourne company Vivatel added conferencing capabilities to its video telephony platform. Allowing two or more video or voice calls to be linked together, the addition of conferencing is the latest milestone on Vivatel's technology roadmap.

"The ability to transfer voice and video between handsets without revealing phone numbers opens up a variety of new applications", said Matthew Kwan, Vivatel's managing director. "Video chat services are an obvious one, but there will also be demand from the call centre and tech support markets. Being able to talk face-to-face with a real person after navigating a phone menu greatly enhances a customer's experience, as does the ability of a support technician to actually see a problem."

Melbourne-based telecommunications firm Vivatel has upgraded its infrastructure to enable inbound call capture. This facility allows the recording of audio and video from a calling handset, opening up numerous potential applications.

Possibilities include video mailboxes, dating services, and all kinds of customer-submitted content, such as talent competitions, live roving reporters, and detailed consumer feedback.

12/03/2008 :: Australian company launches interactive weather service for 3G video phones

This week Melbourne company Vivatel launched the world's first video-call weather service. By making a video call to 1902 250 841 from a 3G handset, callers can access real-time weather information sourced directly from the Bureau of Meteorology.

As well as providing callers with weather forecasts and observations, the service displays live rainfall radar maps, showing where it is raining and how heavily. Callers can zoom in to areas of interest using the digits on their keypad. Calls are charged at 77c/min plus regular video call costs.
